Sudoku is a number based puzzle that is a popular mental exercise for members of Mensa. You are given a number grid with a few of the numbers filled in. You have to fill in the rest. The rules are simple. The solution is not always easy. The main grid consists of 81 number squares in a 9 x 9 matrix. This is shown as an array of 3 x 3 large squares and each of these is divided into a smaller array of 3 x 3 small squares. Each of the number squares must be filled in with a single digit integer between 1 and 9. Each of these integers is only allowed to exist once in each array of 3 x 3 small squares. Each of these integers can exist only once in each row or column in the main 9 x 9 matrix. You are given a seed set of numbers to start with.

You have the options of a totally blank version or you can choose one with all the numbers shown. The version with all the numbers displays them in small print in each square so that you can cross out the ones that you have eliminated. Just write in the seed numbers in large print, say with a fibre tipped pen, then progressively cross out the unwanted small numbers in pencil. When a square is left with just one option you can overwrite it with your fibre tipped pen.
